User Agreement & Usage Policy

By using the ReefBeacon website, dashboard, and related services (collectively, the “Service”), you agree to these terms. These terms form a user agreement between you and Noviai Limited, the producer and operator of the Service (“we,” “us,” or “our”). If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have the required authorization.

About the service

The Service provides daily marine heat stress readings and risk classifications for 65 sites across 8 marine regions worldwide. Supporting features such as survey photo review, historical questions and answers, and quarterly trend reports depend on available information and regional support. Complete historical or survey records are not guaranteed for every site.
Important limitation: the Service provides heat stress alerts and does not confirm bleaching in real time; confirmation still requires field surveys. Alerts and data are for conservation and research decision support only and must not replace field verification or any safety-critical decision.
Risk levels are determined by DHW thresholds (> 4 for a watch / > 8 for bleaching risk), are not subject to manual intervention, and cannot be changed on request.

Accounts and access

Organization user accounts are granted the minimum access needed for each role. Keep your credentials secure, and do not share organization accounts or sign in on someone else’s behalf.
The guest account displayed on the sign-in page is a shared experience account and does not isolate private information. Do not submit personal data or use it to handle real operational data. Readings and statuses in the interface should be interpreted according to their labeled dates, sources, and test indicators. Using a guest account does not grant additional authorization to use data.
Unauthorised access attempts (including bypassing access controls or extracting other users’ data) are prohibited and may result in account termination.

Acceptable use

Do not subject the service to automated scraping, load testing or attacks beyond normal use;
Do not attempt to disrupt alert services, alter classifications, or mislead audit records;
Do not use the service for any unlawful activity, or in any way that harms coral-reef conservation work or the marine environment;
Do not impersonate any person or organisation, and do not reverse-engineer the service or circumvent its security controls;
Research data exports must stay within your organisation’s authorisation and carry attribution as set out under “Data sources and intellectual property”.

Data sources and intellectual property

SST / HotSpot / DHW satellite products come from NOAA Coral Reef Watch (public data); when citing them, do not imply that NOAA endorses this system’s conclusions.
Rights to survey records, photos, protected area and reef boundaries, and other content belong to their respective rights holders. Their respective license, attribution, and redistribution conditions must be followed. Public availability does not mean that commercial use or sublicensing is allowed without authorization.
Original interface elements and copy on this website belong to Noviai Limited. Third-party content and components are used under their respective licenses; these terms do not change ownership of those rights.
When citing alerts or reports produced by this system, include the accompanying data-snapshot reference and threshold/model version.

AI-assisted content

Some assessment notes are prepared with AI assistance, while risk levels are determined by consistent DHW thresholds. Notes may contain errors or omissions; for important decisions, refer to the accompanying original readings, data sources, and version records.

Disclaimer

Satellite data may differ from conditions close to shore. Delayed data is clearly marked “using previous day’s data,” but the availability of data sources is not guaranteed at all times.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” Any warranties, obligations, and user rights that cannot legally be excluded are unaffected by these terms.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Noviai Limited is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses arising from the use of or inability to use the Service. Where applicable, total cumulative liability for claims is limited to the fees you actually paid for the Service. This limitation does not exclude or restrict liability that cannot legally be excluded or restricted, or deprive you of remedies available to you by law.

Changes and interruptions

This service is under ongoing development and pilot operation. We may adjust, suspend, or end some features. Service incidents are handled according to established measures, but uninterrupted or error-free operation is not unconditionally guaranteed.

We will update these terms and change the “Last updated” date on this page. Significant changes will be communicated through a website notice or an appropriate contact channel. Changes for which separate consent is legally required are subject to obtaining that consent.
